About Kitchen Fox
Kitchen Fox is an Adelaide-based kitchen, cabinetry and benchtop operator working across Greater Adelaide, the Adelaide Hills and the Fleurieu Peninsula. We design kitchens, build cabinetry in our SA workshop, and install across metro Adelaide and the surrounding regions. Three clear routes — kitchen renovations, custom cabinetry, and surfaces — one workshop, one quote process, one team that does what it says it’ll do.
The brand carries the local-craft brief in two words. It’s the only place on the site we’ll lean on it — the work speaks louder than the metaphor.
Why Adelaide kitchens need an Adelaide kitchen specialist
A national franchise can install cabinets. So can the cheapest operator on a Facebook group. Neither one knows the difference between a 1920s Norwood villa with a galley kitchen on suspended timber, a 1960s Mitcham bungalow on slab with a bull-nose archway hiding a load-bearing wall, and a 2020s Mawson Lakes new-build with a 6-metre island opportunity. Get those distinctions wrong, and the homeowner — not the contractor — wears the structural cost, the layout regret, or the council-approval delay.
Adelaide’s kitchen profile is its own world. Eastern-suburbs heritage stock carries character-zone overlays under NPSP, City of Burnside and City of Unley planning regimes — internal-only kitchen renos usually no-consent, but rear extensions and butler’s pantries in conservation zones often need a development plan consent. Coastal homes from Glenelg to Henley Beach run salt-air corrosion considerations on hardware and finishes — brass and brushed stainless outlast chrome by a decade in that environment. The Hills and Fleurieu carry bushfire BAL ratings on outdoor kitchens; CFS overlays change what we can build on which block. The northern plains and Mawson Lakes carry post-2000 slab-on-ground new-builds where the full custom from-slab kitchen is the norm.
That’s the patch. Reading it correctly is the design job, before the cabinet job.
What we do — three routes, one operator
Kitchen Fox runs three correctly-pitched routes inside one business. We don’t dilute any of them by pretending the buyers are the same.
Kitchen renovations. Full and partial kitchen rebuilds. Hamptons, shaker, modern handleless, French provincial, transitional, coastal. We measure, design, source, fabricate and install. Most renovations run 90 days from first brief to final sign-off. We coordinate the trades — electrical, plumbing, stone, tiling, plaster — so you make one phone call, not five.
Custom cabinetry and joinery. Butler’s pantries, walk-in robes, built-in wardrobes, laundries, bathroom vanities, entertainment units, study fit-outs. Made in our SA workshop, not flat-pack and not imported. Designed for the room you’ve measured, the doors you’ve chosen, the hardware that suits the finish.
Surfaces and outdoor. Stone benchtops (quartz, porcelain, sintered stone, granite), splashbacks (glass, tile, full-height stone, mirror, pressed-tin), sinks and tapware, integrated appliance coordination, and full outdoor-kitchen builds. Templated and fabricated in Adelaide.

Credentials and standards — the moat
The Adelaide kitchen industry splits cleanly in two on credentials. Real licensed operators carry a Building Work Contractor licence under the SA Building Work Contractors Act and they buy public liability cover, manufacturer accreditations and AS-compliant install practice. The cheap end carries none of that, sub-contracts to whoever’s free that week, and is gone the day after the deposit clears. We sit on the credentialed side and we’ll show you the paperwork without being asked.
- Licensed under the SA Building Work Contractors Act 1995. Required for any building work over the licensing threshold in South Australia. The licence is the operator’s accountability — the homeowner can check the public register.
- Adelaide-based cabinet makers. Doors, drawers, carcasses and shop drawings produced in our SA workshop. Australian-made E0 board for carcasses, Australian-made hinges and drawer runners (Hettich, Blum), Australian-made two-pack and timber-veneer doors where specified.
- Engineered-stone ban-compliant. Since 1 July 2024 high-silica engineered stone has been prohibited Australia-wide. We install porcelain, sintered stone, low-silica engineered, natural stone and granite. Worker safety and air-monitoring at the fabrication step is non-negotiable.
- Public liability insurance. Certificate of currency available before any job starts.
- Seven-year cabinetry warranty. In writing, on every cabinetry install. Hardware (Hettich, Blum) carries the manufacturer warranty in addition.
- Houzz, Master Builders SA and KBDi. Membership with Master Builders Association SA and the Kitchen and Bathroom Designers Institute of Australasia (KBDi) is pursued where the operator’s credentials warrant; Houzz Australia portfolio is live before launch with a minimum of 12 finished projects.
Licensed under SA Building Work Contractors Act. ABN 15 677 761 787.
How we work — the four-step pattern
Every Kitchen Fox project moves through the same four stages. The detail varies — a butler’s pantry retrofit and a full custom Adelaide Hills kitchen don’t follow identical timelines — but the pattern is the same.
- Quote and brief. Free in-home or showroom consultation, 60 minutes. We measure, photograph and produce a written cost band the same week. No deposit at this stage.
- Design and materials. A 3D plan, a finishes board, hardware and appliance specifications, a fixed-price written quote. You sign once you’ve seen everything. Deposit only on signed quote.
- Build and coordinate. Cabinetry built in our workshop. Stone templated on-site, fabricated, delivered. Trades — electrical, plumbing, tiling, plaster — coordinated by us. Lead time four to six weeks for cabinetry; we book the install crew during that window.
- Install and sign-off. Installed in one to three weeks on-site. Final walk-through, snag list, written warranty hand-over.
The pattern matters because the failure mode of most kitchen jobs is hand-off. The cabinet maker disappears once the cabinets are installed; the stonemason disappears once the bench is in; the tiler is on a different job; nobody owns the snag list. We own the snag list. That’s the difference.
Editorial Team — the writing behind the site
Kitchen Fox publishes practical, Adelaide-specific guides on kitchen renovations, custom cabinetry, butler’s pantries, stone benchtops, splashbacks and outdoor kitchens. The Editorial Team writes from the operator’s working knowledge — what we measure, what we cost, what we build — combined with public-source data (HIA, Master Builders, Houzz, ABS, Safe Work Australia for the engineered-stone regulation work). Where we publish a price range, we attribute the data source. Where we cite a regulation, we link to the official version. Where we don’t know, we say so.
If you spot something out of date or you’d like to suggest a topic — the contact email below is the right place. We update articles as Adelaide kitchen pricing and regulation shifts.
Cross-trade partners — the network we work with
Kitchen renovations don’t happen in isolation. A few partners we work with regularly across Adelaide:
- For pre-renovation pest treatment around kitchen voids and butler’s pantries — Adelaide pest control handles ant trails, cockroach harbourages and rodent pressure during demo and rebuild.
- For tree clearance ahead of an extension or outdoor-kitchen build — Adelaide tree services covers the canopy work councils sometimes require before structural changes.
- For real-estate prep after a kitchen renovation — aerial property photography and pre-listing window cleaning round out the post-reno listing package.
We don’t earn a referral fee from any of these — they’re trade partners we trust because the work shows up clean.
Service area
Greater Adelaide, the Adelaide Hills and the Fleurieu Peninsula. Headline radius is 50 kilometres from the CBD; regional South Australia (Barossa Valley, Mid North, Riverland, Yorke Peninsula, Kangaroo Island) is quoted on enquiry. Some of our most rewarding builds have been outside the metro — premium regional work is welcome, not declined.
